What: One of the fundamental requirements for this project was smart use of the space. Not only did the client want to to use it for multimedia entertainment, but also for socialising. Therefore, Finite Solutions designed a cinema room that was unobtrusive in every sense, with individual elements that can be hidden away when not in use.
How: The multifunctional purpose of this room required Finite Solutions to design lighting scenes tailored to different activities. A mixture of wall lights, downlighters, uplighters and LED strips were installed, controlled by a Lutron Grafik Eye system, which allows multiple lighting scenes to be created.
To deliver the audio performance required, Bowers & Wilkins in-wall speakers were placed behind the acoustically transparent cinema screen without compromising the audio or picture quality. In-ceiling speakers also helped to create true surround sound, without cluttering the interior of the room.
The Highlights: A unique feature of this project is the fabric on the walls, which not only looks stunning, but also serves two very important functions: improving the sound quality by dampening the room, and acting as a ambient light absorber to create deeper blacks and richer colours on screen.
The client wanted to access entertainment options from multiple resources. Therefore, Finite Solutions incorporated different components such as a Kaleidoscope Cinema One movie server, a Sky HD box, a Marantz Blu-ray player, an Apple TV and Sonos. Efficiently controlling this large number of components was a challenge. Finite Solutions opted for Control 4, which provides a simple universal system that allows control of all aspects of the system, including the drop down projector and screen, lighting and multimedia sources.
