Foobot is here to help you breathe more easily in your own home. And not only breathe, but also stay healthy, feel more energetic, sleep better, be more productive and avoid respiratory issues – all benefits of breathing better air at home. This smart device sits in the home to alert you to pollution in the air so you can do something about it and protect your family from the effects of poor indoor air quality.
First up, Foobot isn’t an air purifier. It senses pollution sources and alerts your smartphone or tablet with a potential action via the Foobot app. For 24 hours a day, it tracks the smallest particles in the air, keeps control of chemicals generated by products, appliances and furniture and helps set the right temperature and humidity of the room for comfort day and night.
So, it might alert you to carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or VOCs in the air and advise you to turn on an extractor or even open the window, helping you to renew the air in your home. Crucially, it will also tell you how long to keep the extractor on in order to completely renew the air.
The device will track pollution sources and alert you to avoid using whatever product causes it. But it can also monitor when domestic pollution is at its peak so you can modify your behaviour accordingly. ‘Peak domestic pollution’, Foobot maintains, might be when everyone gets home from work or school in the evenings when cooking or cleaning are done and members of the household might be getting dressed to go out for the night. In other words, don’t all spray your deodorant at once! But by supplying users with this information, the makers argue, we can make intelligent decisions that might help improve the air quality and health of everyone in your home.
Foobot stands just 17cm high so won’t be obtrusive and is compatible with Apple iOS 7 and above and Android 4 and above. Priced €199 from the online shop.
